Omar Sandakly

Vocal, Piano, Drum, Guitar Instructor

Omar Sandakly (he/him) is a New Haven based singer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, composer, and music educator. From contemporary choral to experimental electronic, heavy metal to radio pop, or musical theatre to absurd performance art, Omar has traversed through genres, and creative disciplines aplenty to better offer a diverse musical perspective.

Growing up in central Massachusetts, Omar stepped into his creative identity upon entering high school, studying under the tutelage of Meghan Montaner and Stephen Trombley. An MMEA All-State Choir participant, host and producer of his high school’s open mic night, and drummer/arranger for the school pep band, Omar remained eager for a variety of creative opportunities. Omar’s creative hunger led him to pursue a BFA in Musical Theater at The Hartt School in West Hartford, CT, and eventually changed gears and graduated with a BM in Composition in 2021. Notable projects include performing and co-writing a 24-hour musical (we wrote *and* staged it in 24. Yes. It was as wild a time as it might sound!), and writing, shooting, editing, and starring in “RUNNING ON EMPTY”, an experimental short film.

Today, Omar bops around New England, making music and art with friends and colleagues. Recent credits include opera soloist for “Shell Shaker” at Mount Holyoke College, tenor section leader for Mnemosyne Choir, and Balladeer/Oswald in Assassins (FUSE Theater). In his spare time, Omar like to ate-ate-ate ayples and banaynays. Check out Omar’s debut EP, “alone & together”! || @omar.the.omar omarsandakly.com
