Jake James started off playing piano when he was four years old. Since then he has expanded his musical talents adding guitar, bass guitar and saxophone to his musical instrument master list. Some artist he has been influenced by are Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kamasi Washington, French Kiwi Juice, Snarky Puppy, Mac Miller, and The Beach Boys. Jake  was classically trained till he was 13 then started studying jazz music and theory while attending Grammy Award wing Co-op High School. Jake has a diverse musical spectrum including blues, Latin jazz, salsa, African tribal music and many other genres. While studying at Co-op Jake had picked up Guitar, Bass, Mallet Percussion, and Aux Percussion. Jake was a high-ranking student becoming vice president of the music department his junior year, President of the music department his senior year and spent his senior year playing jazz performances for the New Haven School District. After high school Jake was accepted into Berklee College of Music, The Music Department at Western Connecticut State University, and UConn. Jake as a professional performing musician has played at Toads Place, The Shubert Theater and Foxwoods Casino with many bands including cover band Staggered Lee, Entertainment, Jazz quartet The Gents and his original Indie Rock Band Something Young.   Something Young recently released a 14-song album titled “Soma” in January 2020. Jake makes samples for the producer “2une” connecting him with producers and artists including Grammy Nominated Producer and Song Writer Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, J.Cole, Mac Miller, H.E.R., and Anderson .Paak
